Benchmarking

Benchmarking by Ricardo provides a valuable mechanism for customers to judge in a highly objective and informed manner the competitiveness of their own products. Ricardo’s broad expertise in transmission engineering provides a unique and independent resource for benchmarking of both current products and emerging technologies.

Benchmarking – an objective and informed assessment of competitor products: 

• Design benchmarking - comparison of customer transmission designs, in either finished or concept form, against Ricardo design guidelines and/or competitor products to evaluate all aspects of design competitiveness
• Manufacturing process review and comparison with the current market norms and state-of-the-art
• Detail cost analysis to compare customer transmissions with competitor’s products in order to identify cost reduction opportunities – Ricardo uses validated and standardised internal cost analysis methods to build up transmission cost component by component
• Efficiency measurement across a wide range of operating conditions using either our state of the art transmission test cells, or vehicle emission labs
• Evaluation of controls strategy for all types of transmission
• NVH assessment either in-vehicle or with the transmission installed in a Ricardo semi-anechoic test cell
• Many existing transmission benchmark reports are available for sale, covering some of the latest DCTs, AMTs, and commercial vehicle transmissions
