Significant growth in the introduction of electric and hybrid vehicles is driving the demand for battery system development and turnkey battery pack design. We have worked on several client projects with applications ranging from HEV and PHEV to EV and from motorcycle and passenger car to busses and trucks. Examples of our work in this area include:
System Definition
- reviewing the overall hybrid and electrical system requirements and determining the performance targets for each of the system electrical components
Battery Management
- testing and characterising cells to determine the control strategies for the State-of-charge and State-of-health algorithms
Pack Design
- including both the complex thermal evaluation and the detail packaging design
Electronic Hardware
- specifying and designing all the hardware that is to be integral with the battery pack for monitoring and control including safety switching functions
Battery Conditioning
- design and supply of both on-board circuit boards or off board equipment, monitoring all key parameters for control and datalogging
Our state of the art facitlity in the US is the Battery System Development Centre located at Ricardo's Technology Campus in Belleville Michigan. It is focussed on the safe development of Li-Ion and Ni-MH battery packs.
